Growing concerns about voter-fraud issues

With the support of the Justice Department and the Obama Administration, groups that have been linked to voter registration fraud are joining forces to shape the 2012 Presidential election, according to documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Judicial Watch, a public research institute based in Washington, D.C.

No end in sight to feds’ out-of-control spending

Sen. Tom Coburn (R., Okla.) blamed out-of-control spending, waste, fraud and abuse for $6.5 billion in expenditures featured in his new oversight report, “Wastebook 2011,” which lists 100 projects that he said American taxpayers do not need.

New Obamacare tax will support ‘rationing’

Another piece of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Health Care for America Act (AHCAA) has surfaced from 2,700 pages of Obamacare legislation that was approved in March 2010. The latest “discovery” is a new tax to be added to all health insurance plans in 2012 to finance creation of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), a quasi-governmental agency created by Congress to carry out research for Obamacare.

Critics: Defense bill poses constitutional crisis

With the adoption of the National Defense Authority Act (NDAA), legal scholars claim the House and the Senate have given President Barack Obama unprecedented executive power that overrides the U.S. Constitution and suppresses the Bill of Rights in times of war. Under the new law, Obama, or any future President, can order the military to arrest and indefinitely detain American citizens without due process.

Renovated Plumsteadville Inn reopens

The 261-year-old Plumsteadville Inn in Pipersville, Pa., reopened Jan. 9 after being closed for two years, including 14 months for renovations under new owner Angelo Evangelista. One of the oldest landmarks in Bucks County, the Inn once was a stagecoach stop between Philadelphia and Easton. As a restaurant, tavern and hotel it dates back to 1751, before the American Revolutionary War.

Federal agency postpones castration of horses

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) postponed plans to castrate hundreds of wild stallions in eastern Nevada, pending a review by the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., later this year. In a compromise, the government was allowed to begin the long-term removal of 1,800 mustangs near Ely, Nev., during the next 6 to 10 years.

U.S. slaughterhouses for horses reinstated

Congress reinstated funding to the Department of Agriculture for the inspection of horse meat for human consumption and President Barack Obama signed a provision to reopen American slaughter-houses for horses, lifting a five-year ban that was helped put into place by animal welfare groups in 2007. The Obama Administration’s action was a reversal of earlier positions that opposed slaughter-houses or the selling of horses for slaughter.

Obama’s policy on illegal immigrants

With scant mention in the mainstream press, the Obama Administration’s so-called “prosecutorial discretion policy,” coupled with a recently-implemented slowdown on deportation proceedings, represents de facto amnesty to more than 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States. Connie Olsen’s “We the People ...” column examines allegations that the Obama Administration is refusing to enforce immigration laws.

Automobiles and racing are his focus

During the week, Scott Vanderlely is behind the counter or working on a car at his automotive shop in Ottsville, Pa., but on numerous weekends, he climbs into his 1966  Chevrolet Chevelle and heads to a local racetrack to compete. The Dublin, Pa., native says he doesn’t “know much about politics,” but professes a deep love for America; he is Bucks County Citizen’s current “Bucks County Patriot.”

Taxpayers’ tab soars for Presidential vacations

President Barack Obama has expressed concern about the nation’s economy, but he apparently has no concerns about his own ability to pay for lavish getaways or vacations, especially when they are reinforced by taxpayer dollars. The President paid$3,500 a day – out of his own pocket – for a 17-day vacation in Hawaii in late December through early January. But, the taxpayers’ tab for security, transportation and other services was $4.1 million.

Ban on incandescent light bulbs delayed

Lawmakers have given 100-watt incandescent light bulbs a reprieve from a government-enforced “lights out” edict until at least Oct. 1. Under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, traditional 100-watt incandescent light bulbs were to be outlawed from store shelves Jan. 1 when companies were required to replace them with products that use 28% less power and provide the same amount of light.

Postal Service tables five-day delivery week

The Postal Service temporarily tabled five-day mail delivery as a cost-saving option until the House and Senate can consider the reform proposal later this year. It increased the price of a first-class stamp from 44 cents to 45 cents and most shipping costs, Jan. 22. Postal Service officials are seeking major changes they say would save up to $20 billion by closing thousands of postal facilities.

President’s Day or Washington’s Birthday?

The third Monday in February is one of 10 federal holidays. Here’s a quick question: Who does the federal holiday honor? a) George Washington, the first president of the United States. b) All U.S. Presidents because it is Presidents Day. The correct answer is in Bucks County Citizen

George W. Bush to speak at area event

Former President George W. Bush will be the keynote speaker at the Plumstead Christian School’s annual Founders Forum, April 24. The event will be held at Calvary Church in Souderton, Pa., because of its seating capacity of 1,500, instead of the school’s main campus at Plumsteadville, Pa.
